Types of Data

Quantitative

Data that can be measured easily.

  • Measurable (ex: Memory usage, CPU usage, Number of Likes, Share, ReTweets)

  • Collected through reality.

  • Close-ended.

Discrete

Numerical values fall under whole numbers. Ex: Number of cameras in a phone. Memory size

Continuous

Fractional numbers. ex: CPU usage, memory usage, temperature

Qualitative

Data cannot be measured easily using numbers, so it's divided into categories.

ex: Gender, Types of Smart Phones

  • Abstract / Descriptive (Random sample)

  • Data extracted from Audio, Image

  • Interviews, Survey, Conversations.

  • Open-ended.

Nominal

Data that doesn't possess any natural order.

Red, Blue, Green

Can you fit them in any hierarchy?

Ordinal

Small - Medium - Large

Grading system A-B-C-D-E-F
